Frequently Asked Questions

Are you offering in-person sessions?

No, not at this time. However, seasonally, if interested, walk and talks in person are possible when weather and travel permits. Teletherapy options are the primary way I provide support.

What are your rates and hours?

Our rate is $200 for individual sessions, varying prices for groups or select packages. Click here for a list of services. (Link to work with me page).

All sessions are 50 minutes and we accept all major credit cards. We offer appointments from 9am to 7pm on Monday - Thursday.

Do you accept HSA / FSA?

Yes! I accept Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flex Spending Account (FSA). These are savings accounts that allow individuals to set money aside tax-free that can be used for out-of-pocket medical expenses.
By putting this money aside, it essentially means that you are receiving therapy at a discounted rate. If you typically spend 30% of your income on taxes, this means that you will be receiving therapy for 30% less.
Ask your employer about how to put money aside in these accounts and then pay for your sessions with the debit card they provide you.

What is a Professional Clinical Counselor?
A Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) status requires additional hours, exams and licensing. It is more nationally recognized for professionals providing psychotherapy to individuals and is more adult, career and individual treatment based. This license requires a specific number of hours of therapy provided/clinical training during their masters coursework plus 3000 hours post graduation to apply for licensing. The same requirements apply for LPCC and LMFT subsequently.
What is a doula?
The term doula translates from Greek to English as “a woman of service”, traditionally for life transitions in the areas of birth, postpartum and end of life. Having been trained professionally as a birth and postpartum doula prior to attending graduate school, I bring this lens of being in support to big moments of life that are challenging to articulate and not meant to be navigated alone.
* I currently do not offer birth, postpartum or end of life doula services in person but am happy to offer consultations and refer you and your family to what suits your needs.

How does it work?

Please book a free consult call with Ella. I will call you at your reserved time and get to know you a bit, find out what you're looking for, your most convenient times/days to connect for future sessions and match you with the type of service for your needs.

We will meet on a secure video conference link such as Simple Practice or ZoomPro, and in some cases, after a relationship has been established, voice calls.

Do you take insurance?

I do not accept insurance except for CENcal patients in Santa Barbara County on case by case basis, but am a considered out - of - network provider for all insurance companies. You can request a monthly or bimonthly statement ("superbill") to submit to your insurance company as an out - of - network claim.
To learn more, please see an in-depth guide to out-of-network benefits.

Note: If you live outside of California, you will not be able to submit claims to your insurance. If you are seeking spiritual counsel or life coaching services, these are not considered medical appointments and cannot be used for insurance reimbursement
What is a Marriage & Family Therapist?
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists (LMFT) have completed their graduate level psychology degrees, 3000+ hours of clinical work, 100+ weeks of supervision, passed a multi hour law & ethics exam and state board licensing exam. LMFTS received a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology with an Emphasis on Marriage & Family therapy however they specialize in many areas of treatment, not just couples or family therapy. They are required to take 36 units of continued education every two years to maintain their license.
How often are sessions? How quickly can I see results? How long should I attend?

It depends on what you're here to work on, the relationship between you & your therapist, and your desire for change.

With all new clients, it’s best practice to have weekly sessions for the first 3-6 months. Any less frequently, it can be hard to build the momentum that is necessary for change to occur. However, if you know this is unrealistic for you, let us know and we can figure out what feels better.

The more you put into it, the more you'll get out of it. Come weekly, try to be open & curious while you're here, ask your therapist for books or podcasts you can dive into during the week that can help deepen your experience.
